My background

Nancy RohatinskyI have been working with families in a variety of roles for over 25 years. My background includes working in the fields of medicine, special education, law, and mental health.

I enjoy working with clients and guiding them through the process of discovering their own inner strengths and resources. By empowering clients in this way, we are then able to identify solutions they can use to work towards whatever goals they may have.

After years of working in special education then earning certificates in mediation and negotiation from Mount Royal University, I joined the Provincial Court of Alberta – Civil (more commonly known as small claims court) as a mediator where I facilitated mediations including  landlord-tenant, employment, workplace, property and business for about 12 years.

For nearly 10 years I worked at Alberta Justice while completing a graduate degree in psychology. I assisted self-represented parties with their court applications under the Family Law Act and provided mediation to parents attempting to resolve parenting and divorce-related issues outside the courtroom. These issues included mobility, custody and access (often referred to as parenting time), child support, spousal support and property. I also provided mentorship and training for new mediators for both family and small claims courts.

For several years I facilitated the FOCIS (Focus On Communication In Separation) course and was an instructor with Mount Royal University for the PAS (Parenting After Separation- General) and PASHC (Parenting After Separation – High Conflict) courses for over 10 years.

As a result of the work I have done completing numerous unilateral and bilateral parenting assessments for custody issues, I have been qualified as an Expert in Parenting and Parenting Assessments in the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Provincial Court of Alberta.

I am a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, the Psychologist’s Association of Alberta, EMDR International Association, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. I am a Registered Collaborative Professional.
